Newly Created Organization of Historically Oppressed Students (O.H.O.S.) Holds march “Say Their Names” For The Recently Deceased Keenan Andersen, Oscar Sanchez and Tyre Nichols.
On Tuesday, Jan. 31 the Organization of Historically Oppressed Students (O.H.O.S.) held a march called “Say Their Names” for the recently deceased Keenan Andersen, Oscar Sanchez and Tyre Nichols who were killed by police. The march took place in the Central Quad of the California State University of Long Beach, at the same time and location as the university’s “Week of Welcome.”
According to the event flyer, the event was labeled as an “emergency action” with a call to support “those who have experienced & lost their lives to police violence.”
The event was sponsored by O.H.O.S., a newly created club and organization at CSULB. Other campus organizations to show up and support the event included La F.U.E.R.Z.A., Queer Students’ Alliance, Muslim Students Association and the CSULB Black Student Union.
As student protestors showed up, many statements could be heard throughout the march such as:
“All cops are bad.”
“Black power.”
“What do we want?” “Cultural Center.” “When do we want it?” “Now.”
“Black Lives. They matter here.”
“Free the People. Free them all. Break the chains and let them fall.”
The students said they are concerned about the rise in police violence.
