Tu Cara Me Suena is a reality competition show currently airing on Univision. The show is comprised of eight Latinx celebrities, who impersonate other singing icons, and is hosted by the actress Ana Brenda Contreras and Rafael Araneda. The show is on its second season, and has well-known personalities competing. The contestants this season are Kika Edgar, Manny Cruz, Helen Ochoa, Christian Daniel, Yahir, Sherlyn Gonzalez, Michael Stuart, and Ninel Conde. Each week, the contestants are randomly given a singer to impersonate, using the “randomizer,” as well as a specific performance that they must mimic. They are then judged based on their performances. The judges are also well-known performers and personalities; Angelica Vale, Charytin Goyco, Eden Munoz, and Victor Manuelle. Each of the contestants has a charity that they are competing for, and every week when a winner is chosen, they are given money for their charity. The show itself is very fun and entertaining to watch, as the performances that they put on are very well put-together. The attention to detail for the impersonations is really spot on, and I like that you can really see how much hard work was put into putting together their performances. Everything from the costumes, to the hair and makeup is exactly as the original performer. I also really love how during the performance, they show some of the original video that they are impersonating. The contestants do the exact same dance movements and motions to really capture the artist. Some of the artists that they have impersonated have been Selena, Marco Antonio Solis, Karol G, and Lady Gaga. One of the weaknesses of the show is the judging. The point system that they use is not very accurate, and the judges don’t seem to really agree on anything. There have been some amazing performances that get scored very poorly, which does not make sense. There is also a part of the point system that allows the contestants to give each other two points, so they are able to help each other out. I have never really seen this in any other competition show, and I feel like this does not really fit in well. The show is also two hours long. While it is entertaining, by the last half hour it starts to drag on a bit as it is just the judges giving their scores to the performers all at once. Once they are finally done giving points out and seeing who the winner of the week is, the contestants then have to use the “randomizer” to see who they will perform as the next week. While all of this is necessary, it feels like a very long time. Rather than having the whole long judging process, I would have liked to have seen more of the preparation that the contestants have to go through. Based on the performances, I am sure that they go through hours on end of practice, and I think it would be nice to see some of that, or even their costume fittings or the hair and makeup process. Besides the minor editing suggestions, I do think that the show is well put-together and thought out, making it entertaining for all audiences. The show airs at 8 pm on Univision, and is a great way to spend your Sunday nights watching with family.
